AN Oompah night with Baron Otto’s Oompah Band held last Saturday in the Falcon’s Nest, Port Erin, to raise funds for Southern Befrienders was great fun, said charity assistant co-ordinator Debbie Lowe.

‘It went really well, at the end of the night everybody came over and gave everyone a hug and said how much they had enjoyed it.’

Around 80 people attended, some in fancy dress, adding to the Alpine atmosphere. The band played appropriate songs and handed out song sheets with lyrics to encourage participation. Fortunately, things did not get out of hand, said Debbie. ‘We all had to stand up and drink your drink and say: “Prost!” Everybody really got into it. It did not get out of hand, nobody was standing on tables and chairs, which was a good thing.’

She thanked everybody for supporting the event by turning up and said they will hold another oompah night.

• The charity will also hold a murder mystery night in Ballasalla village hall on Saturday, November 24.
