VOLUNTEER Peel lifeboat crewman Juan Owens and Zurich Financial Services have boosted the RNLI’s SOS fund with the presentation of a cheque for £1,100.

Juan donned his RNLI kit to collect in the Zurich office in Douglas on SOS Day (January 29) and collected £550, this was then doubled by Zurich from its staff charity fund.

Chris Holland and Voirrey Keggin, trustees of the fund, joined Juan before a Sunday morning Peel lifeboat training launch to present the cheque to second coxswain John Hunter.

SOS Day is the biggest fundraising day of the year for the RNLI.

The RNLI charity saves lives at sea. Its volunteers provide a 24-hour search and rescue service. The RNLI is independent of Coastguard and government.
