TOP COACH: Adventurous Experiences owner Keirron Tastagh has passed the BCUs highest level coaching award

ADVENTURE sports coach Keirron Tastagh has passed the British Canoe Union (BCU) level 5 sea kayak coach award.

The owner of Adventurous Experiences, which is based near St John’s, passed the assessment on the west coast of Scotland.

The award is the highest level coaching award currently available from BCU, the qualified coaches are also able to work in the most advanced conditions of their discipline.

Following the Level 5 development training course at Tollymore National Outdoor Centre in Northern Ireland, in December 2008, Keirron has worked with different Level 5 coaches throughout the UK, observing them and having them observe his coaching.

Keirron said: ‘Leading up to the assessment, I spent much of this September over in Scotland, working with my mentor and other highly experienced coaches, ensuring my own delivery was consistent and consolidated.’

Achieving the award raises the standing of the Isle of Man as a world-class training location for sea kayaking, and is an accolade to the professional coaching team at Adventurous Experiences, all of whom have been part of the process.

Keirron explained: ‘In addition to drawing clients from off island, it will also have increased benefits for the programmes we deliver through the Adventure Club, the youth scholarship development and leadership programme, and corporate team building and leadership days on the island,’

The BCU states that qualified level 5 coaches are ‘recognised as a cadre of competent, experienced, motivated paddlesport coaches with a depth and wealth of knowledge, who can be relied upon to provide practical coaching, advice and guidance up to the highest level’.
