Peel Town Commissioners has announced an event to mark the island’s Year of Culture 2014.

A torch light procession will climax with a beacon being lit a short way up Peel Hill to celebrate the start of the Year of Culture.

The Vikings of Mann will lead the procession along the quayside in Peel and hand a flaming torch to commissioners’ chairman Ray Harmer, who will light the beacon.

This will then be followed by a short firework display.

Children are welcome and can bring their own battery torches, while spare torches will be available for adults.

The procession will assemble at 4.45pm at The Mill Yard, behind Moore’s Kipper Yard before setting off at 5pm, proceeding along the East Quay to Peel Beach,

The parade will go ahead regardless of weather conditions so anyone coming is advised to wear suitable clothing.
