MORE than 50 members of the island’s Townswomen Guilds gathered for their annual luncheon at the Peel Golf Club on May 15.

After a superb meal, they settled down to hear one of the UK’s 100 best selling authors and Manx resident, Lyn Andrews speak on a Life in Literature.

Ms Andrews said that while she had always been an avid reader, as a child she was not a ‘scribbler’ and did not progress from articles and short stories to writing novels but went straight in at the deep end producing her first full-length book at the kitchen table.

She described her early works as historical novels, but said that the decline in the hardback market and the need to take time out to bring up her triplets brought about a change in direction.

Returning to her writing after a break of eight years and acting on advice to ‘write about what she knew’ she looked for inspiration first to her roots in Liverpool.

She has now written 31 best-selling sagas with an historic background and her latest novel, Beyond a Misty Shore, has a Manx connection.

Pip Hansbury gave the vote of thanks.
