A new commissioners’ clerk has been appointed in Castletown. From March 1, Hugo MacKenzie will take over from the current clerk Eddie Convery, who retires after almost seven years in the role.

Mr MacKenzie is a former Castle Rushen High School student who studied geological science at Imperial College, London. He lives in Port Erin.

He worked for the Royal Bank of Scotland and the Department of Infrastructure’s highway division. Commissioners’ chairman Alwyn Collister said: ‘He is well known to us. He worked for highways for a number of years. He is familiar with the town.’

Mr Collister said of the 34-year-old: ‘We have had young clerks who have stayed for a number of years – he could be there for years.’
