MUSIC service’s peripatetic brass teacher Garry Reynolds has won a competition to compose the ship’s motto for Royal Navy ship HMS Ramsey.

Mr Reynolds’ winning entry was ‘Judge us by our acts’, and he was presented with a plaque by Royal Navy officers and HMS Ramsey crew members, who were visiting the town as part of Remembrance Day celebrations.

It is unusual for a warship’s motto to be attributed in a competition, but Lieutenant Andy Insley, former second in command of the Sandown-class mine hunter – currently in service in the Gulf – conceived the idea to engage the people of the ship’s namesake town, and said he had been impressed with the support from the public. The presentation was made in St Paul Church Hall

The motto has now been adopted by the ship after formal approval from the relevant authorities within the Royal Navy.
