AFTER a seven-week delay, Marown Primary School was finally able to declare its upgraded playground officially open.

The unveiling of the £53,000 facility was scheduled for July, but wet weather meant the laying of the specialist flooring was put back.

Marown School Association treasurer Lorraine Quayle said the expected lifespan of the equipment is 10 to 15 years, as long as the wood is treated regularly, though she knows of a similar model at a Center Parks in the UK that has been in continuous use for 17 years.

The new equipment is the result of 18 months hard fundraising work.

The school wished to thank the Department of Education and Children, the Manx Lottery Trust, Marown Parish Commissioners, Zurich International Life Ltd, the Royal Bank of Scotland, HSBC, and the parents, teachers and pupils of the school for their kind contributions to the project.
