THE former croquet lawn at the edge of the golf course in Port St Mary is being considered as a possible site for a raised model railway track.
The Isle of Man Model Engineering Society wrote to local authorities island-wide asking if there was a possible site in their area for the track.
The village commissioners’ clerk, Jason Roberts, said that the lawn was near facilities at The Pavilion (restaurant), such as food and toilets.
The society would also need a storage shed for the track when not in use.
Commissioner Alec Merchant welcomed the proposal and said: ‘It is consistent with the use of the golf course as an area for recreation and there is the potential of bringing some business to The Pavilion.’
Mr Roberts added the society would like a lease for at least five years and need an idea of what rent would be charged.
The commissioners decided to discuss this aspect in private.
