A VERY well supported open morning at Kirk Michael fire station managed to raise £1,544.80 for the Firefighters’ Charity.

The charity supports injured firefighters and their families if they have suffered an accident in the line of duty and assists in their speedy rehabilitation and eventual return to work.

There were a number of attractions on the day, such as stalls, the best cake baked by a fireman and a ride on the fire service’s Ariel Ladder appliance.

The best cake baked by a firefighter was won by James Graham with a Victoria sponge cake, the competition being judged by Alf Cannan, a prospective MHK for Michael.

‘A big thank you to the community of Michael and neighbouring parishes for their continued support for this cause,’ said station officer John Cashin, of the Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service.
