GUITARISTS BOOKED
TWO LEADING acoustic guitarists are set to take the Centenary Centre in Peel by storm.
Michael Berk and Jon Gomm will be performing on Sunday, November 26, with support from Anna Goldsmith — her first gig at the centre.
Michael Berk is no stranger to music lovers as he headlined the 2005 Bushy's Big Wheel Blues Festival as part of the act String Theory. He began playing at the age of six using his mother's old guitar and a Beatles songbook. By the time he was 11, he was playing professionally with bands.
Guitar magazine has said about Michael: 'His background is in heavy metal and flamenco, his current sound blending Celtic sounds and modern acoustic techniques with helpings of bottleneck and flawless fingerpicking.'
London's famous 12 Bar Club has called him 'one of the few truly gifted acoustic guitar players around . . . a true virtuoso'.
Jon received his first guitar when he was just two years old.
The Talk magazine said about him: 'He is a master of making contradiction work. He takes an acoustic guitar and makes it sound like a bongo drum, a rim shot on a snare, a screaming banshee and an acoustic guitar all at the same time.' He was even described as 'the new Hendrix' by ReviewCentre.com
The two guitarists are being brought over by Jonno Promotions.
Anna Goldsmith will be playing the Centenary Centre's baby grand piano on the night.
Tickets are 10 and can be reserved via jonno@manx.net initially. In due course they will be available at the usual outlets for the Centenary Centre.
