STEPHANIE RECORDS A CHARITY CD
A TEENAGER with stars in her eyes is making a name for herself by releasing a charity single.
Stephanie Clift wowed the audience and judges at last month's Manx Stars in Their Eyes, held at the Villa Marina, Douglas, with her performance as Eva Cassidy.
One of 14 acts, including takes on the Bee Gees, Elton John and Christina Aguilera, she was the best soundalike and lookalike and had the strongest stage presence.
It was the fourth time the event, organised by Scott Christian, has been held, but the first time a CD of one of the singers has been made.
'Stephanie was the last one to perform on the night. She blew them away and got a standing ovation from a full house,' Scott said.
Dave Armstrong, from Stereoscout Records, Victoria Street, Douglas, was in the crowd and offered Stephanie, 14, the chance to record a single on top of the 500 prize offered in the competition.
'It was really good fun making the CD,' Stephanie said. 'Everyone really likes it. They are quite impressed because my voice is quite strong and I am quite small.'
The disc includes Over the Rainbow, the track she won the competition with, Wonderful World and a video of Stephanie as Eva Cassidy.
Stephanie described her style as soulful, bluesy and relaxed.
Eva Cassidy is her favourite artist and was an easy choice for her star performance.
'I just listened to the way she sang and my backing track. I practised every night and most mornings,' she said of her preparations for the competition and recording the CD.
Stephanie, who lives in Greeba Drive, Onchan, with her sister Jade, 15, and parents Tracy and Sterling, goes to King William's College, Castletown.
She plays the piano and is taking GCSE music.
'I'm thinking about a musical career and maybe becoming a singing coach,' Stephanie said.
The CD, priced 5, will be available from Jaks in Loch Promenade, Douglas, HMV, in the Strand Shopping Centre, Douglas, and online at www.stereoscout.com from Friday.
Scott is in talks with other outlets he hopes will stock the CD.
The 13,000 raised from the event at the Villa Marina, on July 2, and profits from the sale of the CD will be given to Hospice Care and the neonatal unit at Noble's Hospital.
'If we sell 500 copies that's 2,000 for the charities. If we sell more that's great,' Scott said.
