CHILDREN at Laxey Primary School are thrilled with new playground equipment following a Manx Lottery Trust award.

The Friends of Laxey School managed to secure a grant of £10,000 from the Trust towards outdoor play equipment. The Friends raised the remaining £4,000 needed to provide two traversing walls and large outdoor musical instruments.

Chairman of the Friends of Laxey School, Bernie Sullivan said: ‘We were delighted to secure the maximum grant available and are immensely grateful to the Manx Lottery Trust.

‘We had been committed to buying this equipment for the children but it would have taken a long time to raise such a huge amount of money.’

The traversing walls have now been installed and the musical instruments are due to arrive after the February half-term.

Laxey School head teacher Jean Aksoy said: ‘The children got involved in a school project examining different types of play equipment to see what would be most suitable. The traversing walls were their favourite, while the musical instruments were something both the children and the teachers were keen on.

‘The children and staff would like to thank the Friends of Laxey School for their time and effort in putting together an application to the Manx Lottery Trust and securing the funding.’

The Manx Lottery Trust administrates funds from the UK National Lottery, making awards to local organisations for projects that benefit the community.
