Fire drama on bus

A fire on a bus last night caused dramatic scenes on the Laxey to Douglas coast road at around 11.30pm.

The bus was travelling from Ramsey when the incident occurred just after it reached ‘Rest and Be Thankful’ next to Glen Mona.

A Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: ‘The bus was well alight before fire crews arrived, however on arrival it was found that the fire was confined to the engine compartment but was spreading to the passenger area.

‘The bus had been evacuated by the driver and no-one was injured, fire crews extinguished the fire using personnel in breathing apparatus equipped with a hose line backed up by other crew members with an additional hose line.’

Fire crews remained in attendance for around one hour and police closed the road until the bus could be removed and its two passengers were taken home.
