MONDAY, NOVEMBER 09, 2009 12:29: Has anyone any idea who has been leaving messages at the webcam site on the mountain? I have been a fan since they first appeared, and found the last one with "help me" beside a gnome a great laugh, however this has disappeared from sight. I log on the site daily for a sight of the island, and would love to see the messages re-appear, so if it's not the fairies, who is it? Please put me out of my mysery, an ardent isle of man fan from scotland.

MONDAY, OCTOBER 12, 2009 22:54: I am hoping to have correspondence with relatives still living on Mann from Robert Corkill. He was born in Maughold in 1844. He left in 1865 on the USS Independence and settled in Illinois, USA. He was a blacksmith and had a brother named John. I have been able to trace his roots back to 1752 but get lost there. Are you still there? I live in California and am wild about anything from the Isle of Mann.

If you want to email me on djcanepa@optusnet.com.au I will give the information that I have. I only have this generation as unless you get actual documents about any births, marriages and deaths on the Kelly name you may not be sure of it being accurate. I will leave upto you if you get in touch. Cheers

THURSDAY, JULY 16, 2009 08:59: Hi there, I am trying to find any details about a William Kelly who was born to Thomas Kelly (Cabinet Maker) and Mary Somers/Summers on the Isle of Man around 1835. It seems he came out to Australia and settled in Gulgong marrying Alice and having around 8 children. He died in Lincoln NSW at the age of 54 and it states on his Death Certificate he lived in (Gulgong/Bungengore) NSW for 40 years. He must have left the Isle of Man in his early teens but have no idea if he came with siblings, parents etc. Any information would be helpful.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 16, 2009 23:24: Hi, I am trying to locate the parents of Elizabeth Moore, born 1811 on Isle of Guernsey. She married Thomas Henry Betts (born 1811 Kilkenny) Dublin. They lived in Dublin and had several children, but then immigrated to America. Their son, Thomas H. Betts lived in Ireland quite a while and was a bookkeeper. The ancestor of Elizabeth Moore Betts was Lady Elizabeth Leigh, born at Stoneleigh Abbey, Kenilworth, Warwickshire, England. I have the descendants of Thomas and Elizabeth Betts (Thomas was my great great grandfather), but no one can find information on Elizabeth's birth, other than date and location of birth. Can anyone help me with this. Also, I cannot find information beyond Thomas Henry Betts (who became an Episcopal priest in Nebraska). Your help would be appreciated. Thanks,

THURSDAY, APRIL 09, 2009 11:53: I wish to enquire about the children of Moses Canning, my great grandfather, who was a journalist on the Isle of Man. Moses lost his wife Jane through child birth in 1889. In the census of 1891 Moses was a boarder with a family called Skillicorn. There is no mention of the children Gertrude Canning age 11 (my grandmother) and her brother Martineau Carlyle Canning age 3 (my great uncle). I understand Moses Canning was a very well respected journalist working in his earlier life with a Mr. Fargher on the local Isle of Man paper. Moses re-married a lady called Mary from Barrow-in-Furness and in the 1901 census both Moses, Mary and Martineau were living at an address in Douglas. My grandmother Gertrude went over to the mainland to work in the post office in Liverpool as she would be of age, 21 years. Gertrude and her brother Martineau could have been placed in care as their father would have had a job of work to do with deadlines to keep. I would like to know where the children were, if they were on the Isle of Man or possibly in Ireland where Martineau is said to have been born. Moses Canning's father, my great great grandfather Thomas was a Mariner and when his wife ? Jane died he lived with his daughter Catherine Fayle (nee Canning). Any information would be most helpful. Thank you.

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 28, 2009 16:13: Dear IOM Sport, I was just wondering if you could explain to me, or if anyone on this guestbook could explain, why the great (not late) Kevin Mcgarvey is not playing for the National Side anymore? I am an avid football fan from west midlands that keeps a close eye on the isles football and thought King Kev, as we know him (since that terrific strike against Burnley in 99) was the best thing to happen to the isle in years...bring back king kev!!!

Many thanks,

I am located in the United States and came across Dalby, Isle of Man while researching my families genealogy. MONDAY, NOVEMBER 03, 2008 12:54: I live in the US, in northwest Indiana, just outside of Chicago. I first learned about the Isle of Man through a couple of World War II movies made there, one namely Enemy at the Door, which originally got me interested in Guernsey. More recently, I came across a man who lives in Peel with whom I am currently corresponding. I have both an interest in World War II as well as learning about others in the Commonwealth. Although I am of British ancestry, I have not yet been able to trace my family tree outside of the US. I enjoy trading small souvenirs, such as postage stamps, coins, post cards, business cards, and other small items. I would like to hear from you and learn of your culture or hear from anyone alive during World War II and learn what part the Isle of Man had in the war. I am 55 years old and have been married for 27 years, so this is not a romantic adventure. I just want to hear from others who want to share cultural and WWII interests. I am also a Baptist, and would like to hear from other Baptists there. My correspondence will not be "preachy" but rather down to earth and folksy, so don't worry. I am also looking for any travel/tourist information/literatrue/videos for IOM. Videos must be compatible with the US format. I recently got a DVD from the Guernsey Bureau of Tourism that worked fine on my home computer.

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 08, 2008 19:49: Hello, my name is Linda Jeffs. I was born in June 1955 in the Jane Crookhall hospital. I am the daughter of Eleanor Bridson who married Paul Jones and moved to England. We went to Australia and on to New Zealand where my Bridson grandparents and Uncle Raymond Bridson were living. I am also the niece of deceased Clifford, Margaret & David. Margaret married Victor Boyd and went to New Zealand also. Uncle Cliff lived on the Island his entire life until he passed away. We were fortunate enough to spend a considerable amount of time with him prior to his passing. I have made contact with a cousin Maureen Tedesco (Gale) who is living in California, USA. I have visited the Island but did not know of any relatives or distant relatives I could meet. Mum and Uncle Raymond are the only Manx people in our family still alive besides myself and my cousin Elizabeth (Margaret's daughter). I would very much love to hear from anyone who remembers my mother and her family. Our family moved from New Zealand back to Australia about 20 years ago where my mother and Uncle Raymond still live. I am living in Texas, USA.

I would love to hear from anyone who is interested and I can share contact information for Eleanor Bridson and Raymond Bridson's if you wish. Sincerely,

LINDA JEFFS lindajeffs@austin.rr.com

MONDAY, JUNE 16, 2008 12:24: I am researching family history of the Morgan Family from Mid Wales. (My Husbands Family) Sarah Ann Morgan was born in Llanidloes, Montgomeryshire, Wales in 1856. I know that she had 5 brothers and 3 sisters. Her father's name was Richard and her mother was Eliza. Richard was the wheelwright in Llanidloes. I know that one of her brothers went to Ince in Lancs. and had several children. Sarah Ann had a son in 1876 who was looked after by his grandparents and aunt, and Sarah went to the Isle of Man. I am sure that she married on the Isle of Man and had a family, possibly daughters. Does anyone know anything about Sarah or are there any relatives out there, would be very interested to hear from you, as Sarah was my husbands Great Grandmother.

TUESDAY, MAY 27, 2008 22:20: Greetings from Arizona. I recently discovered quite a bit of my Lace family info on a genealogy site, including Daniel Lace (b. IOM 1824) and his wife Mary A. Lace (born IOM 1827), who I believe to be my greatgrandparents and who both emigrated to Cleveland, Ohio, on two different sailings in 1847. They had 8-10 children, one of whom, Louis, was I believe my grandfather, who married Anna J. Kaiser, my known grandmother, and they had one child, Sherman Louis Lace, my deceased father. If anyone on the IOM has any information about Daniel and Mary A. (I could not find her maiden name), I would be thrilled to receive it. I was on the IOM briefly in 1985 and I look forward to a longer return trip, since it is such a delightful place, and it was wonderful seeing all those "Laces" in the telephone book. Would also love to meet some Laces on my return someday. Regards to all.

THURSDAY, MAY 15, 2008 17:58: Hi. I am doing family research for the Reeves family. I am the son of Virginia Reeves, the grandson of Robert Reeves and the great grandson of William Maunsell Reeves of Toronto, Canada. I have discovered that we are descendants of Lewis Buckle Reeves, Lieutenant, RM who served with Nelson aboard the Victory and who died in 1861 at age 75 and was apparently buried in Douglas, IOM. Are there any Reeves in the Isle of Mann who are descendants of Lewis Buckle Reeves and who can share info about the family or Lewis Buckle Reeves. Thank you.

SUNDAY, MARCH 30, 2008 18:52: Twelve months ago we started planning our move to the Isle of Man. We put our newsagents shop up for sale and this we thought would be our biggest hurdle, but it sold quite quickly. Now all we had to do was sell the house, but after years of shopkeeping, the house needed lots of attention as any shopkeeper will tell you, you just don't get time. Out came the paste table, paint and wallpaper, and one month later we had the for sale sign in the garden. We started planning who would show our eager veiwers round, and what to do when we got at least three would be buyers in a huge bidding war. Three months later we are still waiting for the rush of househunters. Yes, you've guessed it, the housing market is flat as a pancake. No wonder, every time you put the TV on or pick up a newspaper it is full of doom and gloom. The credit crunch and banks down to their last billions leave us with no feel good factor. Our dream of buying a house in Onchan may take a bit longer than planned but we will get there. Meanwhile if anybody wants to swop houses, its a large semi detached with original stain glass windows in the beautiful Rossendale Valley in Lancashire. Kind regards to everybody on the Isle of Man.

As we all know he will be 93 on 04 February, 2008. He did so much to make people smile and we respect and love him for that. We know from what his own family have said that he enjoys having an audience, so it would be great to hear some news and views from the man himself.

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 2007 14:56: I used to go to the IOM on holiday many years ago (1968, 1969) Used to drink at the Crescent Hotel on Queens Prom and eventually worked there for a season as a waiter in 1970. Lively, busy pub, I lived in for the season. Jack Quirk was the landlord. Some of the waiters, me included, used to sing with the resident musicians. Happy days, my girl friend (now my wife of 35 years) worked in a guesthouse. I remember Roger (Irish waiter who also sang) Jimmy (Irish barman) Mike and Louise (Jack Quirk's son & daughter), Maggie (Barmaid) Leo (Drummer) Ricky (Singer).

There was an aqua show at the leisure centre for the season, and Ronnie Dukes and Ricky Lee were on at the Palace Lido. Never been back since, must return some day. Any memories anyone? Dave the singing waiter. email:- rhiandave.fern@btinternet.com

MONDAY, OCTOBER 29, 2007 17:16: Looking to trace the family history of Bertram George Kelly. He was born on January 4, 1884, to Margret Quirk and Captain James Kelly. Captain Kelly was a master mariner who changed careers later in life to become manager of Southend-on-Sea Pier, Pavillion and Electric Tramways in 1887. Bertram Kelly was appointed chief assistant engineer to the Manx Electric Railway Company in 1920 and, in 1922, he became the first Douglas Borough Electrical Engineer. He married Douglas-born Daisy Christian at Dhoon Church, near Laxey, in 1911. The marriage produced three daughters, twins Sybil Marjorie and Joan Christian in 1912 and Monika Joyce in 1917. After retiring, he became Vicar of Braddan, Isle of Man, serving the parish until in 1964. All emails welcome: petalfloweryone@yahoo.co.uk

TUESDAY, AUGUST 14, 2007 15:04: Hi all, I am just looking to revive some old memories, I spent the summer of 1995 working in the Hotels of Port Erin and the Castletown Golf Links, I was hoping that some of my old work colleges and friends might read this post and drop me a line. Unfortunately as the years have passed the memories have faded and the faces and names have become blurred into one giant picture of joy, merriment, heartbreak and woe. It was a wonderful summer and any help in reliving the memories would be greatly appreciated. You can get in touch with me at damien_murray@vodafone.ie.

If you can spare the time please drop me a line - you know who you are. Speak to you soon.
