Service Users’ Network Mental health conference

A CONFERENCE to mark 10 years of service user involvement in the mental health services will be held next month.

A Decade of Service User Involvement has been organised by the Service Users’ Network and will be held at the Keyll Darree Education and Training Centre, Noble’s Hospital, on October 10, World Mental Health Day.

The event will be chaired by SUN representative John Gregory and will see speeches delivered by David Killip, Department of Health chief executive, and SUN board members.

There will also be input from Mental Health Service staff, as well as from Yetunde Onifade and Nash Momori, recovery trainers with the Mental Health Providers Forum, London. The pair will talk about the Recovery Star tool, which allows mental health professionals to aid in the recovery of those with mental illness.

SUN aims to contribute to the continued development of contemporary, recovery focused mental health services in the Isle of Man. The charity raises awareness and challenges the stigma associated with mental illness.

The event will begin with registration and refreshments between 9am and 9.30am and will end at 4pm. A light lunch will be provided.

For further information and to reserve a place contact SUN at serviceusersnetwork(at)manx.net or call 457756.

• The Service Users’ Network will hold its Annual General Meeting on Friday, September 21. It will begin at 3pm at Keyll Daree Education and Training Centre, at Noble’s Hospital. Refreshments will be served after the meeting and all are welcome.
