The iMuseum is to move into the Manx Museum’s main building and will be relaunched with an upgrade.

It is currently based in nearby Kingswood Grove in Douglas but is to be relocated to the Manx Museum’s main reading room.

The online service will also continue.

A spokesman for the iMuseum said that full details would be announced in a couple of weeks.

The iMuseum currently allows users to log on and search Manx newspapers and publications from 1792 to 1960.

Almost 400,000 pages are available to browse and search.

Membership is free and the iMuseum is free to use at the museum but fees are payable if you wish to log on from home.

Included in the records are old copies of the Isle of Man Examiner, as well as now-defunct papers such as the Peel City Guardian, the Isle of Man Weekly Times and the Manx Sun.

The archives also hold photographs from the 1860s onwards, along with birth and marriage records.
