New Year’s dippers in Castletown will have an extra reason to celebrate when they run and jump in the harbour tomorrow (January 1).

It will be the 50th anniversary of the Castletown Ale Drinkers’ Society’s event.

Holmes Blackburn and Stephen Gardner, who took part in the first dip in 1964, will be among those braving the chilly waters at 11am.

The proceeds will be donated to local charities.

New Year’s dips are taking place around the island’s coast.

Breakthrough Breast Cancer Isle of Man’s dip, sponsored by Canada Life International, takes place on Queen’s Promenade, Douglas, at midday.

Warm up takes place at 11.45am with Zumba Fitness.

Dippers will be entering the sea at Peel for the 31st year.

Sponsored by Green’s Jewellers, money raised from the event will be split between Peel Lifeboat, Multiple Sclerosis and Manx Workshop for the Disabled.

Meet and sign in at 11.15am for the dip at midday.

Laxey dippers will enter the sea from the beach at midday.

Money raised will be donated to Manx Muscular Dystrophy.

Collect a sponsorship form from the Shore Hotel, in Laxey.

Meanwhile, Southern Dippers will aim to complete four dips.

They start at 11.30am at Chapel Beach, Port St Mary, followed by Port St Mary’s inner harbour at 12.15pm, Gansey bay at 1pm, and Port Erin bay at 1.45pm.

There will be cash prizes for the best fancy dress outfits on the day handed out by Bushy’s Brewery.

Money raised will be donated to domestic abuse charity Safe, Strong, Secure (3S).

Ramsey RNLI is hosting the third annual Ramsey New Year Chilly Dip.

All registration and sponsorship money raised will go to Ramsey RNLI and Bunscoill Rhumsaa.

Registration will be from 10am at Ramsey RNLI Station on South Promenade, Ramsey, with the dip itself taking place promptly at 11am from Ramsey RNLI slipway.

If you do join in the dip you are encouraged to raise some money for the RNLI charity and also Bunscoill Rhumsaa.
