Police are appealing for witnesses following what they describe as a violent altercation in Douglas town centre that resulted in two men being taken to hospital.

The incident happened at 1.30am on Saturday in the area of Prospect Hill and Nelson Street.

A number of local residents were involved, with a further number of passers-by having to intervene to calm the situation.

Detective Constable Samuel Cannell said: ‘The actions of those involved were particularly vicious, with punches, kicks and stamping being reported.

‘This sort of behaviour is completely unacceptable and it’s lucky the injured parties aren’t more seriously wounded.’

Police have arrested and interviewed two men over the matter, but are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time.
