A FUNDRAISING campaign to raise £20,000 for Noble’s Hospital’s maternity unit is already delivering results.
The launch of The Jane’s Big Push, held at the Strand Shopping Centre, Douglas, raised an impressive £843.
The charity With Women Worldwide is spearheading The Jane’s Big Push, backed by the Manx Independent.
With Women Worldwide secretary Anne Graham said: ‘The launch was a great success with lots and lots of people turning up.
‘We raised a total of £843 which was a fabulous amount.’
Money raised during the nine-month campaign will be used by midwives working to refurbish two rooms on the labour ward into a home-from-home birthing room.
It will provide a much more relaxed and low-tech environment.
Research from the National Childbirth Trust and Royal College of Midwives has shown a non-labour ward environment can provide a more calming and relaxing environment for women to give birth in, enabling a more positive and enjoyable experience.
At the launch, there were leaflets and information on display, as well as cakes, face painting, balloons and colouring for the children to enjoy.

Parents also gave their ideas for what they would like to see – with one dad saying they would like to see Sky TV in the delivery room.
Anne said: ‘We have an offer from an electrical engineer to do all the mood lighting in the rooms which is fantastic.
‘All our lovely home-baked cakes sold well and donations were flooding in as well as excellent raffle ticket selling.’
She added: ‘The day was quite hectic and busy with lots of chatting and saying hello to babies and mums.’
An event will be held during each month of the nine-month campaign, including a black tie ball in May at the Mount Murray Hotel and Country Club in Santon.
It is hoped that residents will give the campaign their support too by getting together and holding their own events to raise money towards reaching the £20,000 target – or more.
The next fundraising event is a pub quiz taking place at the Archibald Knox pub, in Onchan, on Monday, March 25, from 8pm.
There will also be a raffle.
It costs £10 per team of six, and they can enter on the night.
One of the aims of With Women Worldwide is to benefit women and children in the Isle of Man and elsewhere.
Any donations can be made to With Women Worldwide and sent to The Secretary, Anne Graham, 10 Lezayre Park, Ramsey, Isle of Man, IM8 2PU.
