Boil water notice lifted
WATER from the tap no longer needs to be boiled before consumption.
The Isle of Man Water and Sewerage Authority has this morning (Tuesday) lifted the precautionary boil water notice it issued on Sunday.
A spokesman said: ‘All investigations have determined that the drinking water quality is of a satisfactory standard and the Authority would like to thank its customers for their patience in this matter.’
The advice to boil first applied to all water used for drinking, food preparation and teeth cleaning. Unboiled water was safe to wash and wash clothes in, the Water Authority said, but not to wash wounds with.
The exceptional weather led to higher than normal levels of sediment recorded in water supplies, resulting in a drop in water quality.
The authority said for three hours ‘the quality of water entering supply was lower than normal standards’.
The affected areas were: Douglas, Onchan, Baldrine, Lower Laxey, Crosby, Glen Vine, Santon, Ballasalla, Castletown, Ballabeg, Colby, Arbory, Port Erin and Port St Mary.
Schools in the affected areas opened as usual yesterday morning, using bottled water.
The Water Authority had originally thought it would be tonight before things were back to normal.
Customers with further concerns are advised to contact the customer services department on 695949.
