AN intrepid team of Manx motorcycle enthusiasts is in the States preparing to smash a world landspeed record.
Members of the Lonan Gentleman’s Fellowship will be flying the Manx flag when they compete at Bonneville Speed Week this weekend at the legendary Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah.
They will be hoping to break a 500cc record for special construction partial streamlined, blown fuel machines – a record which stands at 176mph and was set in 1973.
The record attempt will be made by Richard Barks, dad of Les Miserables star Sam, on board the 500 Manxman, a 500cc motorcycle specially built by the team for the competition.
Richard is joined by engine builder Paul Hodgson of Small cc Racing in Lonan, electrical engineer Bob Watson, transport chief Stu Harvey and project manager Suzy Starlite.
