BUSHY'S Brewery is toasting success after one of its beers picked up an award at a regional beer festival.

Brewery boss Martin Brunnschweiler said Bushy's Ruby Mild was named the best mild at the western regional beer festival organised by the Society of Independent Brewers in Hereford.

Martin said: 'It was quite a surprise as there was a transport problem getting the beer to the show on time.

'It was fantastic to win the category for best mild, stout and porter and the beer was named second overall in the whole festival which featured more than 40 independent breweries.

'This was such a big boost for us and means the beer has been entered in the national finals, which are decided in March.'

Martin said, in his opinion, the judges, made up of SIBA officials and members of the Campaign for Real Ale, picked the beer because its pure flavour.

He said: 'We like to think it did so well because it's brewed in accordance with the Isle of Man's Pure Beer Act which means you can't add chemicals or preservatives to the beer.'
