THE centre of Castletown will be closed to motorists next Monday, September 12 to allow Commonwealth Youth Games participants to have a cultural day in the town with a series of activities in the castle and also, from 12.15pm to 1.45pm, their answer to the tin bath races in the harbour.
Roads around the harbour, Market Square, Parade and to where Queen Street meets Farrant’s Way will be closed at 8.30am. This means if motorists leave their cars in the grammar school car park, they cannot be removed until roads re-open at 4.30pm.
Castletown Commissioner Alwyn Collister said the event is, ‘quite a coup for Castletown. The traders have been asked to be prepared for an influx of over 1,000 people coming in by train. We will have to put out signs asking people not to park late on Sunday.’ The bus service will be re-routed via Alexandra Road and turn at Castle Rushen High School.
To park in the car park off Farrant’s Way will be free on the day.
