Port St Mary Commissioners are jumping for joy after they secured £20,000 of funding from the Manx Lottery Trust.
The cash has been earmarked for much needed upgrades to equipment and furniture for the Town Hall interior.
Local commissioner Rich Ashcroft, who applied for the funding on behalf of the board, said: ‘I’m absolutely delighted with the news, its been a long process but absolutely worthwhile in the end.
‘The money will be used in three areas – a purpose built sound and lighting system for gigs, theatrical performances and corporate events. There will be new curtains throughout including for the stage and brand new stacking tables with comfy chairs for banqueting.
‘It really couldn’t have come at a better time. Currently, we are in the final stages of putting on a new roof on the venue and this money for the interior should secure our wonderful Town Hall as not only the largest but also one of the best equipped in the South for many years to come.’
It is hoped that as much of the money as possible will be spent with local suppliers and technicians.
Mr Ashcroft added: ‘I would like to take this opportunity to thank the board of the Lottery Trust for this generous bursary and assure them it will greatly benefit the people of the South of the Isle of Man.’
The funds for the grant come from the Manx Lottery Trust which is a delegated partner of the Big Lottery Fund UK.
The town hall has a capacity for 150 persons seated and 200 standing.
