A competitor died in practices for the Manx Grand Prix last night.

Stephen McIlvenna, aged 39, from Randalstown in Northern Ireland, was killed during the evening’s qualifying session in an incident at the Mountain Mile.

McIlvenna was an experienced racer who first competed in the Manx Grand Prix in 2005. He won the 2009 Junior Manx Grand Prix. He also competed in the TT Races in 2010.

The Manx Motor Cycle Club said it wished to pass on its deepest sympathy to Stephen’s family and friends.

The Coroner of Inquests has been informed and an investigation into the circumstances of the accident is under way.
