Corkish: I didn’t say turn the music off

Have your say

DOUGLAS West MHK Geoff Corkish has stressed he is a supporter of the Relay for Life event.

It comes after he came under fire on the website Manx Forums where it was claimed he asked organisers to turn off the music because of complaints by some constituents.

The 24-hour event, which raises money for Cancer Research UK, took place at the National Sports Centre over the weekend.

Mr Corkish told iomtoday he went down to support the event at 9.45pm on Saturday – and while there asked organisers to ‘turn down the music a bit’ because of complaints from some people living in Ballabrooie.

‘There was no slight intended – everyone was supporting the event,’ he said.

‘I am chairman of the Isle of Man Anti-Cancer Association and supporter of Relay for Life.

‘I lost my own mother to cancer two years ago.’
