CONCERNED Dalby residents have arranged a requisition meeting tonight (Thursday) to talk about the former Ballacallin Hotel.
They will tell officials from the Department of Local Government and the Environment and the Department of Tourism and Leisure of their fears over plans for the building.
The hotel was empty and in a state of disrepair when it was taken over by the current owners in 1999. They tried to revive it as a hotel and restaurant but the site eventually closed again last October.
Last month, a company called Paxton Enterprises Ltd, registered as being based at the Ballacallin Hotel, submitted a planning application to change its designated use from hotel to residential.
An accompanying document said the hotel's owners thought it would be 'unfeasible' to run the Ballacallin on a seasonal basis and the best course of action was to make it a private residence.
But Dalby resident Margy Killey, who set up the meeting, said local people did not want to see the Ballacallin become a residential property.
She invited anyone interested in the future of the site to attend the meeting, to be held at the St James's school rooms next to St James's Church in Dalby, at 7.30pm
