IT’S not often you can find shoppers dancing in the aisles, particularly in current harsh economic times.
But DIY shop B&Q bucked the trend on Saturday with what was originally to be a world record attempt involving staff and customers across its 350 shops in the British Isles.
Jackie Fernie, human resources manager at the stop on the edge of Douglas, said: ‘It was going to be for the Guinness Book of Records for the most people dancing at one time but we couldn’t get anyone to come and adjudicate it properly.
‘But we decided as a company we would go ahead anyway.’
Using I’ve Got a Feeling by the Black Eyed Peas as their song, schoolchildren who had learned the dance, along with staff, took part, as well as some customers.
‘We thought it would be a bit of fun,’ said Jackie. She added they had been rehearsing the routine for a couple of weeks prior to its Saturday premiere and they hoped to have a formal shot at the official dancing record in the future.
Service manager Steve Walton said lots of people had got involved and they were thinking of repeating it in support of Red Nose Day.
‘It created a massive buzz in the shop,’ he said. ‘The staff were all up for it and their enthusiasm was phenomenal.’
