This spectacular image of Saturday’s electrical storm was captured by Colby resident Bill Holgate.
Mr Holgate, a retired joiner, was at his bedroom window poised ready with his camera before 6am as the storm was at its height and and caught the lightning strike as it lit up the night sky opposite his house.
‘The storm woke me up and I could see the lightning so I started counting between the thunder and lightning flashes. It was very close so I went to get my camera,’ he said.
He used the ‘fireworks’ setting on his digital camera for the shot which needed a longer exposure.
‘I was just praying a car wouldn’t drive past and ruin it and I was fortunate,’ he said.
