THE actor who has welcomed hundreds of thousands of visitors to the House of Manannan has died.
TP McKenna has starred as Manannan in the introductory video at the Peel museum since it opened in 1997.
A Manx National Heritage spokesman paid tribute to the Irish actor, saying: ‘We would like to extend our sympathy to Mr McKenna’s family and hope that they may take some comfort in knowing that his work has been seen by many hundreds of thousands of visitors to the House of Manannan since it opened in 1997.’
Thomas Patrick McKenna (known as TP), died on Sunday aged 81 following a long illness.
During his career, spanning 50 years, he played alongside some of the most famous actors of the 20th Century on the big screen including Dustin Hoffman, Gregory Peck and Robert Mitchum.
He made frequent television appearances during the 1960s and 1970s in popular series including Doctor Who, Crown Court and The Avengers.
His television career continued to flourish in the 1980s and 1990s, with roles in Miss Marple, Lovejoy and, again, Doctor Who.
He fulfilled a long-held ambition to appear with John Thaw in Inspector Morse when he was cast in the final episode The Remorseful Day in 2000.
