We should hear within three weeks if early morning flights to London City are to be restored.
Economic Development Minister John Shimmin was quizzed about the future of the island’s vital airlinks to London following Flybe’s withdrawal from Gatwick.
EasyJet will increase frequency on the Gatwick route to twice daily on certain days during the summer but times are not suitable for island business travellers to make a day trip.
Meanwhile, an announcement is expected soon from BA CityFlyer on whether it is to increase frequency on its London City route, which was cut to one flight a day last month.
Mr Shimmin, replying to a question from Alfred Cannan (Michael), said: ‘A month ago the minister for Infrastructure and I met with BA CityFlyer to discuss returning to an early morning and an evening service from the end of March next year. Our discussions have gone very well and I hope there will be some news regarding London City very shortly.
‘Behind the scenes there have also been dozens of conversations and emails with both EasyJet and BA CityFlyer regarding flights to and from London. This court and the public, should be reassured that this issue remains the highest priority in my department and is discussed on a daily basis. I hope to have an outcome within three weeks.’
