THE government’s Department of Economic Development doubted that Manx Radio’s TT-only station would be a commercial success.

Today’s Manx Independent has more on that story, which emerged after the state-subsidised broadcaster announced it was dropping the venture.

Stuart Baggs is the main picture on page 1. We report the Apprentice star’s comments made on a BBC chat show earlier this week.

Inside the paper, the Department of Infrastructure has given more details about the proposed Peel Road scheme, which we revealed two weeks ago.

We also have more on the fire that led to the evacuation of homes in Ballasalla earlier this week. Click here to read the story we ran on Monday night.

The island seems to have suffered more and more flooding over the last year or so. The Independent reports how the government hopes to tackle flooding problems in future.

The paper also reports a court case in which an advocate said his client was not a racist but was ‘idiotic’.

The inquest into the death of dinner lady Christina Collister ended this week. We report the findings. {http://www.iomtoday.co.im/news/isle-of-man-news/tribute-paid-to-dinner-lady-1-4023616|Click here to read the story we wrote in 2011 in which tributes were paid to Christina.}

For beer lovers, there’s good and bad news. We report on the developments at Okell’s. While the brewery has made changes and modernised, it has stopped brewing mild because it wasn’t selling in the quantities needed to make it viable.

The bendy bus story rumbles on. We’ve shown a picture of one apparently stuck outside Ballakermeen High School to the Department of Community, Culture and Leisure and ask what happened. Click here to see photos of the bendy bus making its way through Castletown.

In our entertainments and leisure section, we look forward to the visit of the Moscow State Circus and a performance of Cinderella in Port St Mary.

Sport includes the latest development on St John’s Football Club’s bid to represent the Isle of Man at the Island Games in Bermuda.

The Manx Independent is in the shops now.
