Divers’ help needed to confirm sewage pipe leak

Peel Commissioners are seeking the help of divers to establish once and for all if there is a breakage in the sewage outfall pipe.

They believe the outfall pipe which runs from the promenade holding tanks to beyond the breakwater has a fracture and raw sewage is apparently being discharged just 30ft from the end of Peel breakwater instead of the 200ft beyond as it is meant to.

The issue was discussed at a recent meeting of Peel Town Commissioners. Commissioner Ian Davison said: ‘The government denies a breakage exists. However, it’s common knowledge a break in the pipe was caused years ago by a dredger. We wish to ask if divers have any pictures or are prepared to take pictures so that the truth can be established.’
