DOGS could be banned from Gob ny Rona, Port Lewaigue, Maughold, if owners continue to allow their pets to despoil the area.
The warning follows an on-site meeting between Maughold Commissioners and the public rights of way officer.
It was agreed that the amount of dog fouling on the walkway around the headland and in the Manx National Heritage car park was blighting the area, particularly for families and children. Although probably a minority, said the commissioners, irresponsible owners are causing a very significant problem that compromises public health i.e. children are particularly vulnerable to the severe effects of toxicaris.
Several options were considered, including the banning of dogs from the area.
The commissioners board hope to work with the Department of Infrastructure and MNH to improve the area for use by faimiles.
