Douglas Council has said it will not fund the conversion of the former swing bridge control tower into a heritage visitor centre.

A maximum lottery grant of £50,000 was available but £509,000 would be needed which council leader David Christian said would be a burden on rates payers and could not be justified.

To be a viable visitor attraction it would need to generate at least £43,000 per year.
