At the age of five, Ramsey girl Rebecca Grant declared that she wanted to be an actress.
And that year, in a write up in the paper of the Ramsey Do Drop Inn drama club’s production of Beauty and the Beast, where Rebecca played the role of Chip, readers were told to look out for her as she would be a big talent in the future.
Fifteen years later, it appears her dream is coming true.
Rebecca, aged 20, is currently working at Universal Studios in Singapore as the fairy godmother from Shrek.
She was one of five chosen from 25,000 people auditioning in Australia,
Under her two year contract, she gets to go out into the theme park, in character, and has had her picture with a princess from Malaysia and Manchester United footballers.
Her mother, Iona Jones, said: ‘She feels every day is a different experience because you never know who you are going to meet.
‘Children always want to have their picture taken with her.’
Iona said Rebecca was the youngest member of the cast and the only British person – with everyone else either from Australia or Hollywood.
‘The cast has really taken to her,’ she said.
Rebecca, who lived in the island until she was seven, before moving to Leeds has had walk-on parts in popular TV programmes including Emmerdale and Waterloo Road as well as children’s shows My Spy Family and My Parents are Aliens.
At the age of 11, she returned to the island to be the body double and animatrix body parts for the sand fairy in Five Children and It.
When she left school, Rebecca decided she wanted to work abroad, and spent two summer seasons in Ibiza as a dancer, before working at Circus Vegas in Dublin.
She was then working in Sydney, in Australia, for Fox TV with former contestants from Australia’s Next Top Model when she auditioned for Universal Studios.
Once her contract ends, Rebecca hopes to go to Hollywood to study acting and get an agent.
‘Then who knows what’s round the corner,’ Iona said.
‘She’s always been very dedicated, even from a young age.’
Iona said her daughter’s dream role would be in the musical Wicked.
Rebecca’s grandparents, Cyril and Rita Huxley, live in Bride.
