Drop in the number of unemployed

THE number of people out of work in the island has dropped.

According to government statistics released today, there were 992 without work at the end of August. That’s a fall of 25 in a month.

During the month,250 signed on and 275 signed off. There are 675 men out of work and 317 women.

A total of 580 vacancies were notified to the Job Centre during the month at the end of the month 305 postions were still vacant.

The unemployment rate in the island is 2.2 per cent. In the UK it’s 8 per cent.
