Fire safety booklet may save lives
Safety first: Gary Hinds, Peter Gallagher of Tower Insurance, Brian Draper, Peter Killey and Jeff Looker
THE Isle of Man Fire Service this week launched a booklet full of advice and tips about cutting the risk of a blaze.
It focuses on many of the common causes of emergency calls and will be distributed through fire stations to people who request a safety visit.
Chief fire officer Brian Draper said: ‘We are here to help safeguard the Manx public and these booklets are a great way to remind people of some basic fire safety information which could potentially save their lives.’
The guide is specific to the island and deals with issues, such as combating kitchen fires which account for about half of all fire-related incidents in the island.
Other pages emphasise the dangers posed by faulty electrics, poor wiring and the overloading of sockets, and there is a section listing local contact numbers, email addresses and websites.
There is also an invitation from the chief fire officer for residents to book a free home safety visit.
Copies are available from fire stations, Age Isle of Man and the hospital’s maternity wing.
The booklet has been sponsored by Tower Insurance.
