TWO football teams in a remote town in South Africa have been sent new kit thanks to Everton fan and Douglas resident Steve Allen.

With help from the Isle of Man Everton Supporters’ Club he has collected 70 pre-owned football tops and other merchandise for two teams he sponsors in Port St Johns, on the Eastern Cape.

Isle of Man Post Office’s sponsorship committee has helped to cover the cost of sending the parcel.

Steve said: ‘It has brought hope and joy to a small community that appreciates it more than I could ever express.’

Steve has supported the town for nine years, after he went back-packing.

This year he helped stage the first Port St John’s junior football league.

He now hopes to raise funds to build a community centre, as well as keeping the league running.
