Old Boys celebrate victory - but the playing surface was damaged amid the celebrations

Police want to speak to anyone who witnessed what they describe as a ‘smoke bomb’ being lit at a high-profile football match.

The incident happened at the end of Hospital Cup final on the all-weather pitch at the Bowl in Douglas on Sunday evening between 4.45pm and 5pm, after Douglas High School Old Boys had claimed victory over St George’s AFC.

It is understood a fan placed a smoke bomb on the pitch, and the playing surface has been damaged.

Constable Moore of Lord Street Police Station said: ‘This would appear to have been a reckless act committed in celebration rather than a deliberate act - I would urge the person responsible to contact me.’

Anyone with information, should contact police headquarters on 631212.
