Football fan hopes to score with new book
INSPIRED by his epic journey to watch the Champions League final, Keith Salmon has written a book about his life as a Liverpool fan.
Originally from Liverpool but now living in Onchan, Keith launched his book We Had Dreams and Songs to Sing last week.
'I went to Istanbul (in 2005) to watch the cup final but being based in the Island makes it more difficult to get across,' Keith explained. 'I ended up doing a Michael Palin style trip to get there – five planes, four trains, a coach, a couple of taxis and a walk across the border between Greece and Turkey to get there. I left here on Monday and got back Sunday! It was a real adventure.'
He took notes during the mammoth journey to help him remember it.
The notes became a short story of 10,000 words.
It was his wife Nikki's suggestion that he write a book about his experiences following Liverpool.
'My style of writing takes you on the journey with me and you are looking at it through my eye,' said Keith, who witnessed both the Hillsborough and Heysel disasters.
With a two and a half year-old son Charlie, Keith doesn't get to as many games as he would like but still goes to 'a handful of games a season'.
He has been on radio stations in Liverpool promoting he book, which is available at Anfield.
