UPDATED STORY High winds are battering the island, with reports of damage to property and fallen trees.

Due to the high winds, Loch Promenade in Douglas had to be closed because of an unsafe roof.

It has now reopened.

The Promenade Walkway Parking has also had to be suspended.

We are retweeting any information we find out about problems on the roads and that information is reposted on our live news feed.

The seas are rough too, causing the cancellation of this morning’s Steam Packet sailing and its return this afternoon.

The evening sailing is scheduled to go ahead, though.

The weather forecast overnight is for snow and ice above about 700 foot with slight accumulations of between 1 or 2 cm possible.

The DoI has been pre-treating (salting) the Mountain Road, Sulby Glen and Beinn-y-Phott this afternoon.
