The Isle of Man’s Zoe Gillings claimed ninth place after agonisingly just missing out on a place in the main final of the snowboard cross at the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia on Sunday morning.
The 28-year-old Ronague woman appeared to be on course to challenge for a medal after safety progressing through to the semi-finals of the event and moving up to third in the second semi.
However, after having to avoid a fellow competitor who lay stricken in the middle of the slope, Gillings faced a race to the line with Italy’s Michela Moiolo who eventually pipped her to third by just a matter of centimetres.
With only the top three in each semi progressing to the big final, it meant Zoe had to be content with a place in the small final where she finished third for ninth place overall.
