Girl, 14, dies in crash; five teenagers in hospital being treated for injuries

A 14-year-old girl died in a road accident near Peel last night (Saturday).

She has been named on social media as Lucia Porter. She lived in Onchan.

Her mother, Julie Porter, posted a message on Facebook which reads: ‘It is with a heavy heart that I let people know that my daughter Lucia has passed away after being involved in a car accident last night.

‘She will be missed more than words can express and I can’t begin to explain the sadness we all feel.

‘Sleep tight Lucia and you will be in my heart for ever.’

Dozens of people have left tributes for Lucia on her own Facebook page.

The police are investigating the incident.

At 11.14pm last night emergency services were called to the Switchback road near Peel.

The police say that at the scene, a field next to the road, one vehicle was found and was believed to have contained eight teenagers including Lucia.

A number of young people were taken to Noble’s Hospital.

Five are currently receiving treatment to their injuries and two have been released.

A police spokesman said: ‘Support is being given to the family of the deceased.

‘The Isle of Man Constabulary sends its condolences to the family at this tragic time. The constabulary wishes to hear form any witnesses who were in that area or have seen a small white vehicle about that time in the west of the island or surrounding area.’

Isle of Man Newspapers has established that the eight teenagers were travelling in a Ford Fiesta.
