HAVE your say on the proposals for an extension to the off-shore wind farm near Heysham at a consultaion meeting in the Villa Marina this month.
Dong Energy, the company behind the Walney Extension Offshore Wind Farm, is inviting you to listen to their plans and give them your feedback between 1pm and 7pm on Thursday, September 15. The proposal will include wind turbines, two/three offshore substations, offshore and onshore cables, and an onshore substation. The project will be about 19km west of Walney island and 31 km from the island. It will cover an area up to 149 squared km - roughly doubling the size of the current windfarm.
With the extension, the farm will have the potential to generate 750 megawatts of electricity per.
In a statement, Dong Energy explains it is consulting with people and communities who could potentially be affected by, or wish to take an active interest in, its proposal. This includes people who live, work or are active near to the farm. Consultations are therefore also taking place in Lancashire and Cumbria.
Feedback received will be reviewed and the company will return for two more rounds of consultations as the project develops. The consultation process is due to last until 2013. A report will then be published and available to members of the public.
