GOVERNOR SAYS FAREWELL

Queen's representative ends five-year term of office

LIEUTENANT Governor Sir Timothy Daunt and Lady Daunt said a fond farewell to the Isle of Man on Friday but promised they would be back.

The Daunts boarded the 9am sailing of the Ben-my-Chree, marking the end of Sir Timothy s five-year term as the Queen s representative in the Island.

We won t be back next week, but in due course. A lot of very generous people have asked us to come and stay with them, said Sir Timothy.

The couple enjoyed a reception at the Sea Terminal, hosted by Deputy Governor Deemster Cain and attended by distinguished guests.

Sir Timothy, 64, said he and Lady Daunt had enjoyed their time but all good things must come to an end . He added that he would miss walking in the countryside and the Island s musical talents.

In a parting message, he said the Island should have real self confidence .

There is nothing to be frightened of if things continue as they are. Timidity is sometimes a handicap.
