Hearing scheduled for Tesco’s Castletown licence
A LICENSING hearing for Tesco’s proposed new shop in Castletown is to take place next month.
The latest application by the supermarket chain to sell alcohol at their planned new Tesco Express shop in Callow’s Yard will take place at 10am on October 15.
An initial application in April was opposed by police who said the town already had enough licensed premises and another shop selling alcohol could encourage loitering and anti-social behaviour. They also highlighted possible parking problems in the Malew and Bank Street area.
At a meeting before Thursday’s hearing Castletown Commissioners voted narrowly to oppose the application. Commissioners’ chairman Kevin Weir said they questioned the need for another off-licence when they already had six within 100 feet of the square and a total of 12 in the town.
