Housing grant cut

Have your say

A ‘MODEST’ reduction in the maintenance allowance for public sector homes from 33.3 per cent to 30 per cent is ‘proportionate’, Social Care Minister Martyn Quayle insisted in the House of Keys.

John Houghton (Douglas North) said Douglas Corporation would not be doing any more disability adaptations because of the ‘severe’ reduction in maintenance allowance and Brenda Cannell (Douglas West) claimed there was a ‘huge’ waiting list.

But Mr Quayle said he was not aware of a long waiting list and the cut in allowance was ‘relatively modest bearing in mind rents have increased over many years.’
