A crackdown to reduce dog mess in Braddan has been a resounding success, resulting in a 95 per cent reduction in dog fouling in the first two months of the campaign.

In June, Braddan Commissioners joined forces with Keep Britain Tidy’s ‘We’re Watching You’ campaign with the aim to target the minority of irresponsible dog owners who still do not ‘scoop the poop’.

Margaret Hodge, vice chairman of Braddan Commissioners, said: ‘Feedback from residents told us that dog fouling is a key issue in Braddan and they would like to see it addressed.

‘Our campaign has certainly made significant progress in encouraging people to do the right thing.’

Signage has been added around the parish, warden patrols have been increased and dog waste dispensers have been trialled in problem areas.

Colin Whiteway, Braddan Commissioners’ clerk, said: ‘Not only have we significantly reduced dog fouling but we’ve also had a really positive response to the campaign from the general public, particulary on social media.

‘People have commented on the power of the posters - they glow in the dark so serve as a great reminder to people at all times of day and night.’

If you see anyone not picking up after their dog, collect as many details about the individual to help identify them and call the commissioners’ office on 852808 or email braddan@braddan.im.
